Me, finishing the Bolder Boulder, 2011

You might have guessed by my alias, Tortoise, that I am no speed demon.  But I do love to run.  I have three kids (or tortlettes!) and enjoy the fact that none of them requires diapers or car seats anymore.  I am savoring some newly-found "me time" by exploring some new activities now that I can leave the house without spit up on my shirt.  Running is one of these.  I have also been known to paint and garden.

My husband, aka Flash, has recently returned to athletic activity.  He has lost 30 pounds in the last 6 weeks.  He finished the Bolder Boulder in less than an hour and we are now training for a half marathon together.  I am SO excited to have a live-in running partner!

We spend a lot of weekends at the soccer, lacrosse or football field.  Tortlette 1, now 14, amazes me at everything he does.  Not only is he an athlete, he also sings and plays the bass.  He has run 3 half marathons and several 10Ks and 5Ks with me.  Tortlette 2, now 9, is my little soccer star.  He and his buddies play every day at recess.  I hope to get him hooked on running, too.  I just bought him his first pair of Asics!  Tortlette 3, now 6, enjoys soccer, gymnastics and dance.  She is sure to be a runner.  She already wants to run the Bolder Boulder with me next year.

I never really considered myself an athlete.  As a kid, I did play basketball and run track, but the purpose was to hang out with my friends - not to set any records (or make any baskets, for that matter.)  My 6th grade basketball coach - bless her heart - named me defensive player of the year.  Yes, I was so bad at getting the ball into the net, I received a pity award to ease my pain.  I did briefly have one claim to fame - the 50 yard dash record at my elementary school.  I don't remember what my time was, but I'm pretty sure that one no longer stands :).

Apparently runners who blog are expected to share their times from various races...  So here ya go:
